Me and my grump dump

I'm Jonathan Oyama, a freelance writer who still hasn't found a full-time job after a year of searching. I figured I'd write a journal of my thoughts on this blog.

I really feel a little out of sorts these days. I don't regret graduating from college and receiving a journalism degree. In fact, my college career helped me find a job in the real world.

I'm just dissatisfied with my jumbled-up mind. If my entries sound somewhat disorganized, it's because I usually don't plan my life too well. I have a scheduler, but I haven't felt like using it. I have a wall calendar from last year, because I'd rather keep the calendar's picture of my favorite anime than buy anything else. The other half of my room is still messy, because I've collected a whole slew of blankets, clothes and other various things from mom, dad and my big brother.

It's actually not supposed to look this messy. However, I ended up keeping all this stuff and it eventually collected into some big pile of old kiddie toys, unused electronics and various little junkets that I don't want anymore. I could try to throw away some of this junk, but mom or dad will inevitably get upset whenever I try to throw out that special something that they always wanted.

I especially have a tough time finding places that can actually recycle my defective electronic devices. The last time I tried to dump my broken boombox on an electronic recycling day, the dumpster wouldn't accept my donation because they thought it was more of a toy than some heavy duty electronic like a computer.

It's ridiculous. I mean, if Californians are supposed to prevent lead and other contaminants from seeping out of the landfills, the state workers should let us recycle all our electronic crap.

So anyhow, I figured I'd find other ways to remove all this stuff that's taking up space in my room. I've managed to turn some of my old electronic junk into little art projects. I cut out the circuit boards from a crappy Gamecube controller and a flash card reader so that I could make my first official masterpiece--Circuitboard Death.

I also dissected my portable CD player to make another circuitboard face. I like to call them hi-tech readymade art sculptures. I'm sure the artist Marcel Duchamp would appreciate some of my amateur efforts.

I really want to clean the rest of my room though. After one year, I thought mom would quit talking over and over about my messy room. Things haven't changed yet, though. I'm grumpy and my room is still a grump dump.

It's a happy grump dump, though. I'm fortunate that someone pays me to write articles for patch.com. It's not the worst or the best, but I get paid. I'm not complaining if I get paid.

If anyone has some good leads on finding a job, feel free to leave a comment. I'm all ears.
